Rondo-sonata form

Music GlossaryMusic Glossary
A form which is basically rondo but observing the sonata principle. The principle rondo theme is followed by the first episode in a contrasting key (exposition); the principal rondo theme again and an episode in the character of development; recapitulation of the exposition in the tonic; final appearance of the rondo theme in the character of a coda.
