Operas on a historical theme with traditional opera writing such as no spoken dialogue, large choruses, full ballets and elaborate sets. (In comic opera, spoken dialogue is allowed.) Examples are Spontini's and Meyerbeer's [Les Huguenots] operas, and Verdi's Aida.
